From the dusty, elephant-rich plains of Tarangire, through the golden savannahs of the central Serengeti, to the crocodile-infested waters of the Mara River in the Northern Serengeti, this itinerary promises thrilling game viewing and unforgettable landscapes.
Timed between late July and early October, this route gives you the best chance to witness the heart-pounding crossing, where thousands of wildebeest and zebras charge across a predator-filled river in search of greener pastures. Round off your journey with a day inside the majestic Ngorongoro Crater, home to Africa’s Big Five.
Itinerary – Day by Day
Day 1: Arrival – Kilimanjaro International Airport to Arusha
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), your private driver-guide will greet you and transfer you to your lodge in Arusha or Usa River for a restful overnight stay.

Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park
Start your safari adventure in Tarangire National Park, famous for its dense elephant population, towering baobab trees, and seasonal swamps. Enjoy your first game drive and lunch in the wild before arriving at your lodge.

Day 3: Tarangire – Serengeti National Park (Central)
After breakfast, drive through the scenic Ngorongoro Highlands and descend into the central plains of the Serengeti National Park. En route, enjoy a game drive as wildlife surrounds you across the endless golden grasslands.

Day 4: Serengeti – Northern Serengeti & the Great Migration
This morning, head north to the remote Northern Serengeti, near the Mara River, where the wildebeest herds are typically congregating between July and October. Enjoy a game drive in pursuit of the legendary Mara River crossing—a heart-racing moment filled with predators and drama.

Day 5: Full Day in Northern Serengeti – Migration Viewing
Spend the entire day exploring the Northern Serengeti, shadowing the herds and watching for action at the river. This is your best chance to witness the migration, crocodiles, big cats, and stunning scenery.
Optional: Hot air balloon safari at dawn over the Mara River.

Day 6: Northern Serengeti – Central Serengeti
Enjoy a scenic game drive as you make your way back to the Central Serengeti, known for its predator sightings and large prides of lions. Take in your final views of the wildebeest herds en route.

Day 7: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After breakfast and a short game drive, continue your journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Arrive in the crater rim area for an overnight stay in the highlands.

Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater Exploration – Return to Arusha
Descend early into the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and natural sanctuary with a dense concentration of wildlife, including rhinos, lions, and hippos. After lunch, drive back to Arusha.

Day 9: Departure – Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport
Enjoy a relaxing morning before your transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight home or onward journey.
